Watt PS Updates

We have been getting questions about a number of items. Here is some information to help answer some of these questions:

Retrieval of Student Property:
Trillium Lakelands District School Board is working with the Health Unit to finalize a plan for the retrieval of student property. We are hoping to get that very soon and will let you know once we have things in place. Please be assured that there will be an opportunity to collect student belongings before the end of June, however, TLDSB must make sure the plan meets public health protocols including physical distancing, hand-washing, and sanitizing.

Grade 8 Graduation:
Our Grade 8 Graduation Ceremony will be postponed until the Fall. In the meantime, the staff and parent council have been coming up with some great ideas on how to honour these graduates for all their amazing hard work over the years. We want to recognize them while maintaining safety and physical distancing. More details on how we will be doing this will be coming shortly.

Year End Awards:
We want to ensure that we still recognize our students for the amazing work and character that they’ve shown throughout the year and will still be “presenting” our year end awards. Staff will be creating a video to share who the award recipients are. The video will be shared with the community towards the end of June. We will provide a specific time and date in the near future. Grade 8 awards will be presented in the Fall.

Report Cards:
All students will be receiving a final report card. The report card will be based on work completed prior to March 13, 2020. Marks can be increased, however, based on work completed through Learning@Home. Marks cannot be decreased as we recognize that students and their families have had a variety of challenges during this time. Students will not be negatively impacted as a result of these challenges.

We hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Please know the staff at Watt PS miss you all, especially your children and look forward to interacting again soon. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email at dianna.petrie@tldsb.on.ca.
